I can hardly believe it, but today is the last day of school here for our boys in elementary school. When I go to pick Silas and Wesley up this afternoon, they will officially be 3rd and 1st graders! They've had an amazing year and I'm so proud of all the hard work they put in. I'm happy to say they had lots of fun, too!
Their school is big on STEM education, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Thanks to a grant from a local container-making factory in our community, the boys' elementary school was able to purchase educational robots that the classes get opportunities to use through computer programming. They are always SO EXCITED to come home and tell me they had time with them in the classroom that day. I've definitely noticed that their interest in school in general is elevated because of the various STEM opportunities they've been given this year. And it's spilled over into other subjects as well. Wesley went from not knowing all of the letters and sounds to fully reading most picture books. Silas struggled with reading beginning chapter books and he is now reading above level books for his age.
